The
Guardian Centre, home of MertonVision
Mission
statement
MertonVision believe
in the right of an individual to a full role in society.
Our
Aim
Our aim is to support
and empower people with a visual impairment, from their diagnosis
of permanent sight loss through the entire rehabilitative
process, in whatever form is appropriate for them. This includes
children, adults, people with dual sensory loss and people
with additional difficulties.
To do this we currently
undertake to;
- Ensure that visually impaired users
of services are in the position of decision making at all
levels for those services.
- Liase with the local eye units to
support people as they are diagnosed with an enduring sight
loss. Vision Support Page.
- Provide a rehabilitation
service in partnership with London Borough of Merton
Social Services whose aim is to promote the maximum amount
of independence and choice for clients. Part of this process
is helping reintegrate clients within their local community.
For us, local is a key word and encompasses local knowledge,
local connections and local awareness of visual impairment
and the service. We feel happy that we are a local provider
in all these respects.
- Run a resource
centre where people can come and try out all the current
tools and adaptations to aid in daily living.
- Provide information
in person or through our newsletter
on courses, agencies and schemes
relevant to their own particular circumstances.
- Provide opportunities for life-long
learning and social activities.
- Recruit, train and support
volunteers who can then work in any number of different
services, including home visits, social clubs, office help,
driving, and social activities.
- Run a benefits
advice and support service.
- Provide transport at a reasonable
cost to those users who need it.
